Salient Characteristics : High mass transfer surface area: High efficiency leading to shorter columns. Regular Structure: No Channelling of liquid. No movement in the bed at high hydraulic loads & hence no mutilation of packing material. Minimum need of frequent liquid redistribution. High void volume in the packing bed: Very low pressure drop, highly recommended for vacuum distillation systems. Higher vapour load capacity compared to random packings & trays. Low liquid hold-up: Low pressure drop. Negligible foaming compared to random packings & trays. In some cases, capacity increase of 50% to 75% has been observed after replacing random packing with FINEPAC ™ Structured Packing.
